The show of the divers of Acapulco

Another alternative is to see "La Quebrada de Acapulco", a show that takes place in the port area, where divers jump into the sea from a 45 m cliff. Tall. Without professional training, these adrenaline-loving people have learned to jump off a cliff into a pool less than 4m deep.

Daily there are five presentations of these brave athletes; the most spectacular and unforgettable are the nocturnal ones, since they are launched carrying a torch in each hand. There is a public viewpoint from where you can appreciate the jump in exchange for a tip for the divers.

The best view, however, is provided by the La Perla club, although there is an entrance fee.

Eat in Acapulco.

It is the law that after an intense day at the beach, it is necessary to venture into the local gastronomy to maintain the body and spirit of the holiday in perfect harmony. In this aspect, Acapulco once again shines and offers lovers of good living a myriad of regional proposals and international cuisine.

However, “fish in size” and “mezcal from Guerrero” are two of the flavors that any traveler should try during their visit. In the first case, it is a specialty prepared with mayonnaise, guajillo chili, onion, bay leaf, thyme and garlic, among other ingredients. Locals do not hesitate to recommend any of the restaurants in the Barra Vieja area as the best to taste this delicacy, a flagship of regional cuisine. In this line, mezcal, a traditional Mexican drink, also has its Guerrero version that is characterized by a strong flavor in which the sweetness of the agave predominates.

History of Acapulco

Those who wish to delve into the history of Acapulco can schedule a visit to Fort San Diego , one of the city's relevant historical monuments and one of the most important maritime fortresses in the entire Pacific Ocean.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Solitude is located a few steps from the fort and combines different architectural styles, which were amalgamated during the long construction process. At first glance it resembles a Russian Orthodox church more than the Mexican temples. A careful look will reveal the subtle neocolonial and Byzantine details, especially in the dome and towers.

The regional touch is provided by the mosaics that adorn the interior. While on the Pinzona hill is the mural that Diego Rivera took 18 months to capture on one of the walls of Dolores Olmedo's house. The work, which shows the strength of Quetzalcóatl, the Aztec god represented as a feathered serpent, was made with mosaics and snails.

Why Go To Acapulco

In the 1950s – long before the rise of Cancún and Cabo – Acapulco was the go-to Mexican vacation destination. During its heyday, the "Pearl of the Pacific" attracted the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and even John F. Kennedy with its amber beaches and pulsating nightlife. Acapulco's former beauty was celebrated on the big screen in films like Elvis Presley's "Fun in Acapulco" and the hit TV series, "The Love Boat." But as the 20th century wore on, Acapulco's glorious reputation tarnished as the city succumbed to overcrowding, pollution and drug trafficking.

Several decades after its fall from beach-destination grace, Acapulco is steadily reviving. It's a popular weekend getaway for many Mexican vacationers, not to mention a prevailing hideaway for European travelers, so you'll find the ambience is more international than the Americanized Cancún. Dance to the live music along the Zócalo, hunt down some of Mexico's best ceviche downtown or escape from the tourist hubbub in Punta Diamante's swank nightclubs – you can still hear echoes of the glamour and glitz of the city's Hollywood heyday. However, travelers should note that the U.S. Department of State issued a travel advisory for several states in Mexico, including Guerrero, where Acapulco is located. Citing widespread crime and violence, the State Department advises U.S. travelers, including government employees, against visiting Guerrero.

Get to know Acapulco: La Quebrada Cliff Divers

La Quebrada is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Acapulco, Mexico. Divers entertain tourists by jumping off either of two ledges on the cliff, one that is 40 feet (12 m) high and the top one which is 80 feet (24 m) high. The divers must calculate the right moment to jump to catch an incoming wave and avoid serious injury or death. Occasionally jumpers dive with a torch. Most of the divers come from the family of Quebrada divers. Although cliff diving at La Quebrada had taken place for many years, it was not until 1934 that the La Quebrada Cliff Divers was formed.

In one of the walls of the cliff there is a path and a restaurant where tourists gather to watch the human divers and to view pelicans diving for fish.

Why should man travel at least once a year?

It's not only about showing the best destinations in the world to visit, but also about giving reasons why it is good and healthy to travel recreationally at least once a year, wherever it is.

They say that for their health, men should go out with their friends at least twice a week. So you might as well say that having a beer, watching a soccer game or just sitting and chatting with them is almost doctor recommended. We believe that for good, or rather excellent health, you should also travel - whether with friends, a partner, family or alone - at least once a year.

Why? Because when you travel you not only relax and break the routine and you are much more willing to open your mind, you also get to know other cultures, their customs, their language, their history, and those are things that you could read in books -or much faster- google on the internet to soak up knowledge, all those discoveries will never compare if you enjoy the experience in first person, that is, there is nothing like something totally unknown that catches your attention and you go and discover it yourself, feel it, smell it, look at it, taste it and listen to it.

Traveling gives you something to talk about, makes you more independent and at the same time changes the way you look at life; because what if on your next trip you realize that you liked Vang Vieng in Laos so much that you would like to live there, and you decide to look for a job there, what if you fall in love with someone on your visit to Mont Saint Michel in France and decide to start a new life there or anywhere else in the world, what if you realize that life can be short and you decide to spend the rest of your time traveling? What if you realize that life can be short and decide to spend the rest of your time traveling, what if you come back with a new perspective and decide to finally get away from everything that doesn't do your existence any good, or simply and quietly, would you mind coming back from a trip happier?

Or maybe nothing happens and you just come back with a new experience and the rest of having been in a new place, but that's awesome too! And doctors should definitely prescribe it at least once a year.
